Update

Well, the move to Berkeley was a success and I'm happily in my new apartment. This is my first real apartment (notwithstanding the apartment I had in Brazil when I studied abroad) so it's an exciting time for me.

I've got a few fics on the backburner, a couple of Bruce/Dick (which are all [livejournal.com profile] bradygirl_12 's fault, curse you and your bondage challenge, lol) and I've started working on the second half of my series "Strengths", which will details how Bruce's strengths play out in everyday life from Clark's perspective. It's kind of tricky because Bruce's "powers" are a bit less clear cut than Clark's, but I've pretty much narrowed down which ones I want to use. I'm in the middle of the "always prepared/knowing exactly what to pack in his utility belt" story and having a lot of fun with it.

I've been really getting into Torchwood and Doctor Who lately which has been fun (canon gay = awesome), but Batman is still number one in my heart :)

Also, new music, plus hot new pictures that my MFA candidate friend took. Check it out: www.myspace.com/jazzmakesmusic

So I've come down with an awful cold, have been super busy at work, AND trying to get ready for my big move to Berkeley this weekend.

So exhausted.

Wish me luck.

I thought you Superman fans might get a laugh out of this article from the Onion:

Al Gore Places Infant Son in Rocket to Escape Dying Planet

Meant to post sooner, but I got busy with the whole "post-vacation settling back into real life" thing.

I got into San Diego Wednesday night and crashed with some friends of a friend, but the next morning it was off to the Con!

Aw Yeah! )

to bring their crying baby to see "The Dark Knight" last night: You suck.

To the people who are responsible for making this amazing film: You rock. So hard.

I just came across an article about a new book about Batman and philosophy:

“Unlike most other superheroes, Batman's origins do not include radioactivity, alien heritage, or high-tech armor. Batman is self-made hero, and because of his humanness, he easily becomes a vehicle for asking questions psychological, social, and, well, philosophical. In the new book "Batman and Philosophy: The Dark Knight of the Soul," editors Robert Arp of the National Center for Biomedical Ontology and professor Mark D. White of the College of Staten Island (CUNY) have compiled 20 essays by philosophers of every field, from metaphysics to ethics to social-political philosophy. For many of the writers, Batman offers a window into profound real-world issues, particularly in the realm of ethics.”

It sounds pretty interesting, kind of like a more in-depth version of a panel on The Psychology of Batman that I went to at Wonder-Con this year. Hopefully my local library has a copy.

You can read the rest of the article here.

And in other news I am:
a) so excited to see The Dark Knight this weekend
b) heading down to San Diego for Comic-Con next week. Expect a full report once I get back! :)

to realize just how awesome Battlestar Galactica is? I've been meaning to watch it for ages, but finally took the plunge a couple weeks ago. Now I'm totally hooked and happily in the middle of season 3 and blocking out the fact that the season 4 is the last one.

This weekend we had a big family blowout with my sister that has given me so much anxiety that I’ve barely been able to sleep all week.

Yesterday my car broke down on my way to work and I had to get it towed. (This is on top of the fact that some one hit-and-ran me on Mother’s Day and I had *just* taken care of the damage from that this past weekend).

Today I borrowed my mom’s car to go to work since mine is in the shop. Her car is much longer than mine so when I pulled up to the garage and put in my key card, I swung out a bit wider because I was worried about scraping the car on the driver’s side. But I (of course) overcompensated and scraped it on the passenger side.

*head desk*

I need a hug.

In the spirit of getting myself to write more often, I’m starting a monthly random panel challenge. Write a fic of any length based on the random panel for the month. The story can be any genre/type or pairing. If you write a story, please post a link in the comments of this post so I can make a master list/index. This month’s panel is:

Awwww, he's so sad his *ears* are drooping!

I fell in love with this panel after seeing it on the awesome comics blog Everyday is Like Wednesday. This challenge ends on June 15, when I’ll then post a new panel.

Oh 2008! It's been an interesting year so far, but one in which I've pretty much failed at LJ-ing (it's terrible, I know, lol). But I'm trying to remedy that and post more often. The new Macbook I just got is making me motivated. I've got a few fics in the works (two Bruce/Dick, one Bruce/Clark featuring a Sandman character) that might actually see the light of day. Early next week I plan on starting a monthly "Random Panel" challenge, writing ficlets based on a random comics panel from the interwebz or my digital comics collection. Anyone can participate if they feel so inclined :)

But today, I bring book reviews!

Thought you might get a kick out of this:

Real Person: Batman Bin Suparman

Side note: About a year ago I was at a mall and heard a parent calling to their kid, "Come here, Kal-El". I did a double take, because at first I couldn't believe I had heard the name right. Have you ever come across someone with a Superhero name in real life?

I just finished reading the entire series. Now I'm so bummed about it being over, I don't know what to do with myself, lol.

*sigh*

I can't recommend it enough, it's really a fantastic series.

WonderCon!

Well, yesterday was WonderCon and my birthday and I had a great time. We went to some panels and just kind of wandered around, taking it all in.

Panels we went to: Psychology of Batman, The X-Files movie panel (Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny were both there, and really funny), Shutter panel (new horror movie with the guy who plays Ando on "Heroes"), Comic Book Legal Defense Fund auction (we got see Jim Lee and Terry Moore draw some pretty cool stuff), "Justice League: The New Frontier" screening (with Bruce Timm, Darwyn Cooke and the other creators doing a Q&A after).

I had a great time, it was a great way to spend my birthday.

Thank you [personal profile] tmelange for the virtual gift and thank you to [personal profile] bradygirl_12 and [personal profile] starsandsea for writing me some wonderful bday fic!
